Arc'teryx VISIONS
VISIONS is A limited-edition hardcover photo book about self-discovery, nature and rock climbing at Kura Tāwhiti Castle Hill, in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Kura Tāwhiti is a place that seems to thrill the human heart. It has long been a site of spiritual significance and artistic inspiration, and more recently a magnet for rock climbers. Here, climbers move like water in reverse, slithering and flowing against gravity, and climbing the limestone is often spoken of as an art rather than a sport.
VISIONS is a photographic essay made in those boulder fields by photographer Ben Clement and graphic designer Joshua Briones-Yap, with words by Erica Gatland and Isaac Buckley. Across 181 images it follows a group of climbers through the basin and sits their movement alongside the landscape's history. That history covers the limestone's slow sculpting, the area's significance to Ngāi Tahu, and the stewardship that climbers now practise so the rock can recover. A Te Reo Māori glossary closes the book.
Produced by Arc'teryx Australia–New Zealand in collaboration with Good Sport Magazine. It accompanies the short film of the same name.
